Improve Your Central California Home’s Curb Appeal!

Central California Curb Appeal Tips

When selling your Central California home, it’s essential to improve your home’s curb appeal, if it’s lacking, because the front of your home is most often what potential Central California homebuyers are going to see first. Just like books, buyers often judge a home by its first appearance.

As your Central California real estate agent, I am here to tell you how you can improve your home’s curb appeal without spending a fortune. Each of these DIY ideas from AOL Real Estate cost less than $50 but can make a big difference in first impressions:

  • Paint the front door. Make your front door stand out. It’s one of the few areas of your home that you’re allowed to go bright and colorful! Choose a color that is classy, but that coincides nicely with your home’s façade, without blending into it. A gallon of paint costs around $25.
  • Upgrade your house numbers. Buyers will be looking for the house numbers when driving by, so impress them with large metal house numbers for about $5 each. Or, opt for wooden numbers that you can paint or stain yourself. You could even use leftover paint from the front door!
  • Spruce up the mailbox. Because it’s right by the street, buyers notice it faster and more often than you think. Either replace the mailbox with a new one, or just spruce it up with some color with regular paint or spray paint. Cost is typically $20 to $30 for a new mailbox, or $5 for spray paint.
  • Add porch furniture. If you have a front porch, don’t leave it empty! Make it look as inviting as possible to potential buyers by adding cozy, classy furniture. This could include a porch swing or some rocking chairs. Check out the local thrift store to keep costs down, such as $20 to $40 total.
  • Install outdoor lighting. You want your Central California home to look appealing in all lights and times of the day/night. Replace lighting fixtures with more modern ones, or if they already look good, just replace the bulbs. Add a sconce by the front door. Use solar fixtures along the walkway.

More curb appeal tips include painting the porch rails and ceiling, decorating with potted plants, and planting drought-tolerant flower beds. There is a lot you can do with your front yard and the exterior of your home for a low cost.
