Central California Home Seller Tips

As more Central California home sellers arrive with listings in the Central California real estate market, it’s more important than ever to stand out from the crowd. As your Central California real estate agent, I’d like to share some tips with you on how you can do just that.

The more you know about current design trends and what the average Central California homebuyer is looking for, the more likely you’ll impress a buyer and gain an offer.

Here are some simple ways to help you sell your home quicker and for more money, according to Inman News:

  • Paint your exterior. This is the first thing buyers will see, either in photos or in person. Paint the siding and the trim so that everything looks fresh and crisp.
  • Get new carpeting. Or, remove carpeting and get hardwood or laminate flooring. Old shaggy carpet is a big turnoff. If your carpet is still pretty new and in good shape, have it professionally cleaned.
  • Remove wallpaper. Some buyers appreciate wallpaper, but for the most part, it’s an outdated trend. Most buyers prefer painted walls, which they can easily work with.
  • Paint interior walls. Speaking of paint, a fresh coat of paint on your interior walls can go a long way! It makes each room look brighter and cleaner. Neutral colors are the way to go.
  • Make it brighter. Turn all the lights on in the house when showing it to buyers. Consider replacing your bulbs with high-wattage bulbs to really make the rooms seem bright, light and cheerful.
  • Remove signs of pets. If you have pets, clean up all the toys, litter boxes, food and water dishes, pet beds and cages so that a buyer will never know you have a pet when looking at the house.
  • Change air filters. Vacuum the vents. Change the furnace filter and get the air conditioner inspected before listing the home. These are all areas that will be inspected by the buyer or the official inspector.
  • Use a real estate agent. As this KCM Crew article explains, 96 percent of buyers that used the internet when searching for a home purchased their home through an agent. It’ll get your home seen!
