Best Beaches in SLO County

SLO County Beaches
Avila Beach, Central Coast

SLO County on the Central Coast offers about a dozen beaches for tourists and locals to enjoy. As your Central Coast real estate agent, I am wondering, which beach is your favorite to visit and why? Each beach offers particular scenery, activities and vibes that sets it apart from the others.

SLO Tribune recently shared a rundown of all of SLO County’s best beaches. Here’s a summary of some:

Lake Nacimiento – As a Lake Nacimeinto real estate agent, this is my favorite local beach! Nestled in the golden-brown hills north of Paso Robles, Lake Naci is an excellent place to go for boating, fishing and water sports. The sapphire blue waters are a peaceful sight, are cool against the hot sun, and are home to all sorts of fish, including trout, bass, catfish and stripers.

Avila Beach – This is the name of the beach town and beach itself. In front of the beach is a scenic pier with a boardwalk, restaurants and shops. The beach faces south, so it’s perfect for sunny weather, warmer waters and mesmerizing sunsets.

Cayucos State Beach – Most of Cayucos’ residents live just blocks from the beach, which is very family-friendly. It also includes small secluded coves and Cayucos Pier, which offers stunning views of Estero Bay. This beach town is also full of antique shops, so make a day of visiting the beach and shopping.

Lopez Lake – This lake is located 10 miles east of Arroyo Grande, but it feels like a world away. The lake sort of feels like a fairy tale, as it is surrounded by rolling hills and oak trees, and it is more private and less crowded than some other beaches. It’s great for hikers, campers, canoers and fishing enthusiasts.

Montana De Oro State Park – Translating to “Mountains of Gold,” beach-goers can discover treasures while exploring the park’s eucalyptus groves, sand dunes, tide pools and rocky beaches. Explore Spooner’s Cove, Point San Luis Lighthouse, Hazard Canyon and many other attractions.

Pismo Beach – This is one of the state’s main tourism draws, but locals love it as well. This beach has everything a beach-goer could want, including surf, sand, souvenir shops, hot clam chowder and more. Enjoy a day of fishing, camping, surfing, and in the winter, butterfly watching!
