Garagiste Festival Coming Up In Paso Robles

Garagiste Festival

With the first day of November in the Central Coast region of California comes the Garagiste Wine Festival in Paso Robles. This annual, ever-popular fest will take place Nov. 11-13 this year. As your Central Coast real estate agent, allow me to fill you in on the details!

Garagiste is a term that originated in the Bordeaux region of France to degrade small-lot winemakers who didn’t follow the “rules” of the industry and often produced products right from their garage! Now, it’s a full-fledged movement that is producing some of the best wines in the world, including wines right out of Paso Robles Wine Country.

At the Garagiste Festival, you can choose from more than 200 wines to sample from over 60 wineries! Here’s a rundown of the events that weekend:

Friday, Nov. 11Friday Night Heaven: Rare, Reserve & Retro, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at The Carlton Hotel in Atascadero. This even costs $55 per person and includes pairing the ultimate cheesy treat, the grilled cheese sandwich, with reserve wines from Garagiste winemakers.

Saturday, Nov. 12 – The Main Event at the Paso Fairgrounds!

Begin the day with wine seminars from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. These are only available with the VIP All-Day and Weekend Pass tickets. Learn what the difference is between a Garagiste wine and a cheap wine from the supermarket. You will learn why the world needs both, and you will taste and compare to understand the difference!

You will also learn more about the no-rules approach to wine-making and then taste the wines that would throw you in jail if produced in France! Wines you will taste in this seminar come from Ascension Cellars, ONX Wines and Pulchella Winery.

The Grand Tasting is the weekend’s main event, which takes place from 2 to 5 p.m. More than 50 winemakers will be pouring over 150 wines and more than 20 varietals. Snack on cheese and charcuterie provided by Vivant Fine Cheese while you sample the wines, alone with food samples from other local artisan vendors.

The festival’s traditional way to end with a bang is the Rockin’ After-Party from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This costs $20 per person and allows guests the opportunity to mingle with winemakers while listening to live tunes from Burning James and the Funky Flames. Had enough wine? Grab some brews from Barrelhouse Brewing Company.

Early Access tickets allow you to taste from 1-2 p.m. as well and cost $85. Regular Grand Tasting tickets cost $65, and VIP All-Day passes cost $135. Weekend Pass tickets cost $150. Choose the ticket that is right for you, but don’t wait! Many of these options sell out early.

You can view the list of participating winemakers, who each make under 1,500 cases per year. Get excited for November on the Central Coast by purchasing your tickets for the Garagiste Festival Nov. 11-13!
