2014 Paso Robles Pioneer Day

Every year, Paso Robles hosts the beloved Pioneer Day, which is an entire day of fun for the whole family. This year, Pioneer Day takes place Saturday, Oct. 11. As your Central California real estate agent, I’d like to fill you in on the schedule for this event so you don’t miss a beat!

If you’re an early bird, head out early on Saturday for the Bean Feed Preparation at Paso Robles City Park at 7 a.m., the Antique Classic Car Judging at King Oil Tools at 7:30 a.m., the Children’s Pet Show for kids 12 and under at the Paso Robles City Park Gazebo at 8 a.m., and the Little Cowboy/Cowgirl Contest at 8:30 a.m. at the Park Gazebo. Entry forms for these contests can be found on the event website.

The main event of the day is the Pioneer Day Parade, which begins promptly at 10 a.m. at 17th and Spring Street. It continues and ends around City Park, so there are plenty of good viewing areas! Get downtown early to scope out a spot, and bring lawn chairs or a blanket if you don’t want to stand.

During the parade, you’ll see plenty of antique tractors, horse-drawn wagons, marching bands, mounted equestrian groups, youth groups, church groups, civic groups, creative floats, vintage cars, fire engines, military vehicles and more. It is definitely not a parade you want to miss!

After the parade, the day continues with special 125th anniversary features! The theme this year is Old Fashioned Funfair, which features a street dance, a beer garden, a bake-off for amateurs and professionals, and old-fashioned games for kids, such as a cake walk and tug of war.

The Free Bean Feed at Paso Robles City Park begins at noon, and Carnegie Library & Historical Museum opens at noon. Beginning at 1 p.m., there will be a horseshoe pitching contest, an old gas engine show, and a band concert.

The Pioneer Museum also opens at 1 p.m. One of the highlights of Pioneer Day is all of the antique tractors, wagons and steam engines that come out for the event. You can view over 70 tractors and wagons on display! There will also be Dutch Oven Cookin’ and a Mule Packing Demonstration.

Pioneer Day started in Paso Robles in 1931. It was organized by community volunteers. Every business closed for the day, and nothing cost money at the event. It was all about bringing together the community to say thanks for supporting local business and the town as a whole. To this day, the event is still free of charge, and it’s still a fun, authentic way to bring the community together!

Enjoy the festivities in Paso Robles this weekend, and when you’re ready to accomplish you real estate goals in the Central California real estate market this fall, contact me, your Central California real estate agent!
