How to Beat the Heat on Central Coast

Central Coast Activities
Whale Watching on Central Coast

Are these dog days of summer getting to you on the Central Coast of California? As a Central Coast real estate agent, I understand! Which is why I’d like to share some ideas with you today on how you can beat the heat this summer.

Visit San Luis Obispo County recently shared 10 ways to beat the heat in SLO County, so I partly borrowed from their ideas, and partly came up with my own favorite ideas. Check it out:

  • Head to Lake Nacimiento! As a Lake Nacimiento real estate agent, this one is a given. On a hot day, what sounds more appealing than swimming and boating in a fresh water lake? Feel the breeze as you whip around the lake on a speed boat! Splash in the water as you courageously attempt wakeboarding or water tubing. The opportunities are endless at the lake, as I explained in this previous blog post.
  • Surf at one of our Central Coast beaches! You’ve got plenty of beaches to choose from, and you’re sure to get soaked while surfing in the cool waters of the Pacific. On a hot day, that cold water will sure feel good! If surfing isn’t your thing, try kayaking, paddle boarding, paddleboard yoga, or just your everyday swim in the ocean.
  • Go whale watching. Blue and humpback whales stop along the Central Coast to grab food on their migration path, and between June and August is the best time to spot them! Find a local beach or pier to do some whale watching at, or join a boat tour for better chances to spot them. You’ve got plenty of whale watching tours to choose from in SLO County and Monterey County!
  • Take a brewery tour. We talk about wine a lot here in the Central Coast region, but if you enjoy a good craft beer, what would taste better on a hot day than a refreshing cold beer? We’ve got over a dozen craft brew locations, so stop in for a brewery tour at Firestone Walker, the new SLO Brew or any other option. Then try the local beers while staying cool and hydrated!
  • Visit Monterey Aquarium. If it’s just too hot for you to stay outside in the heat, head indoors at Monterey Aquarium. When you’re surrounded by water and sea creatures, along with A/C, you’ll almost feel like you’re in the deep ocean yourself!
  • Head to the drive-in. When you’re not battling the heat of the sun and sunburn, it’s easier to enjoy the outdoors. Head to Sunset Drive-In in San Luis Obispo for an outdoor movie under the stars! Curl up in the back of a truck or pack some lawn chairs and enjoy a movie with family or friends.

What is your favorite summertime activity on the Central Coast? How do you beat the heat on a hot summer day? Share by leaving a comment!

In my next blog post, I’ll share what wineries you can visit for a cooldown. In the meantime, when you’re ready to buy a Central Coast home, or ready to sell your Central Coast home, contact me!
