Don’t you love how old trends, styles and patterns always seem to resurface and make themselves new again? As your Central California real estate agent, I’d like to share some timeless home decorating trends with you today. These trends were once in style back in previous generations, and now they’re making a comeback. Whether you love them or hate them, it’s a good idea to keep up with what’s trending when trying to impress house guests or when trying to sell your Central California home!

Here are some classic trends that Better Homes and Gardens says are back:

  • Blue and White. Sweet, simple blue and white color palettes are back. This was a popular trend in the early 90’s but are back in modern patterns. Any hue of blue will do. You can incorporate this with a throw rug, upholstery on a piece of furniture, throw pillows or a blanket.
  • Brass. Brass was in style in the mid-90’s and have now made a comeback as a softer, antiqued version. Brass is taking over chrome and brushed nickel and is joining gold in popularity. You can incorporate this on your faucets, mirror or picture frames, or with light fixtures.
  • Orange. Orange was a popular home decorating color in the 60’s and 70’s, but now it’s back in a less hippie fashion. Rather than showing up in florals, velvets or tie-dyes, it’s very popular in cottage-style homes and with nautical themes. It pairs nicely with whites, bright blues and wood surfaces.
  • Shag Carpeting. Shag carpeting has been out for a long while now, but its modern-day cousin is called flokati, and this is gaining popularity. It’s generally made of sheep’s wool, but there are many synthetic versions as well. It features ultra-high-pile fibers that allow your feet to sink in, and the patterns are often bold for a graphic design punch.
  • Pastels. Pastels have only been found in children’s rooms and play areas since the 80’s, but they are coming back in style for the rest of the home as well. To avoid looking too light and sweet, add a bold accent color or two in with the pastels. These make great wall colors, bedding or accessories.

Better Homes and Gardens named numerous other old trends that are coming back in style as well. You can check out the whole list in their article.

After browsing through, share in the comments which of these styles you’re on board with, and which you’d like to see disappear forever!
