What to Do With Your Time in Monterey County

Monterey County Attractions
Big Sur, Monterey County, CA

As a Monterey County real estate agent, I always find it interesting to see what others recommend doing with your time in Monterey County. For example, Fortune Magazine recently shared what the ideal day would be in Monterey County if you had a $10,000 budget (because who doesn’t, right?), and See Monterey recently shared what they’d recommend doing with three days in Monterey.

Here’s a summary of what each recommends!

One Day in Monterey County

Fortune Magazine asked concierge of Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, Jorge Macias, what he’d plan for a single day in Monterey County with $10,000. He said he’d begin the day with a private tour of Jack Galante’s wine estate, along with a visit to other Carmel Valley wineries if time allowed. Then a few hours would be spent at the Spa at Pebble Beach, followed by a late lunch at the Bench, overlooking the famous Pebble Beach Golf Course.

The day would continue with cocktails at Rocky Point Restaurant, followed by dinner at a private chef’s table at Lucia in Carmel Valley. The evening would end at Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, where you’d enjoy a stargazing session with in-house astronomers. They teach you how to use a telescope and find constellations in the sky.

Three Days in Monterey County

With three days in Monterey County, and with a much more reasonable budget, See Monterey recommends you spend your first day in Carmel-by-the-Sea, where you can enjoy up to 15 local wine tasting rooms in the one-square mile area of downtown. You could get the wine tasting passport to help guide you. Afterward, relax on the white sands of Carmel Beach.

Spend your second day in Carmel Valley. Hop on the Wine Trolley, or take MST’s Grapevine Express, and then make your way around to the different tasting rooms. You’ll get to enjoy outdoor patios, a vintage motorcycle collection and more, all while sipping the different wines.

Spend the third day in Salinas Valley. Again, you will find a plethora of wineries and tasting rooms along scenic Highway 68 and River Road. Visit Pinnacles National Park to visit the oldest grape vines in Monterey County, and then taste barrel wine in their wine cave. You could also book a Hahn Estates ATV vineyard tour, or an Ag Venture Tour for more of an experience.

A few notes to realize with these recommendations is that the first one is very luxurious, for a big budget, and the second is clearly mapped out for a wine lover. If you were to plan a trip for someone in Monterey County, what would you suggest they go see and do? Share!
