What to Do After Moving Into New Central Coast Home

Central Coast Homebuyers
Change the locks!

If you just recently moved into your dream home on Lake Nacimiento or along the Central Coast, congratulations! If you are still in the home-buying process, or soon will be, congratulations to you, too! Buying a Central Coast home is a dream come true, and as your Central Coast real estate agent, I am happy to help you achieve this dream. If you haven’t contacted me for help yet, please do!

The home-buying process can be overwhelming, so it seems that once you close on your new house and move in, the work should be done. However, that is typically not the case. There are a few things that you should do right away, for the sake of your safety, security and comfort.

Here are a few suggestions for your move-in checklist:

  • Change the locks. You just don’t know who has keys to your new home, so the safest bet is to change the locks and get new keys. This is an inexpensive task that will add much safety and peace of mind. The sooner you do this, the better.
  • Set up cable and internet. This might not be important to you, but if you work from home, or you just can’t miss one of your favorite shows, you’ll want to call and set up an appointment for getting cable and internet going in your new home as soon as possible.
  • Clean or paint. Your new Central Coast home should be clean and ready to go. But if there is anything you’d like to clean, or paint, it might be wise to do so before moving all of your belongings in, or before unpacking them. Do it while rooms are empty and easy to move around in.
  • Change the air filter. There is a good chance that the previous owners recently did this before listing the home, but you just never know. Check the air filter, and if it seems like it needs replacing, do so. It’s a quick task that will give you cleaner air and a cheaper energy bill!
  • Give your home a scent. Have you ever noticed that every home has its own smell? Your new home doesn’t necessarily have a bad smell, but it just isn’t yours, until you make it yours. Choose what you want your new Central Coast home to smell like. Purchase some candles, essential oils or air fresheners in your signature scent.

Have fun making your Central Coast home yours! If you still need helping buying a Central Coast home, selling a Central Coast home, or both, contact me! I am your Central Coast real estate agent, here and ready to help you out.
