What Makes SLO County Stand Out in California

SLO County Highlights

If you are wondering where you should relocate to on the Central Coast, might I suggest SLO County? Not only is SLO CAL a beautiful region full of vineyards, beaches and fresh lakes, but it also stands out from the rest of California in many ways! As your SLO County real estate agent, let me point out what makes SLO County so unique and wonderful.

Here are a few:

  • SLO County is eco-friendly. Locals and tourists drive down Highway 1 in droves, past SLO County towns along the coast. Now, they can also help improve the towns by picking up a Stewardship Cleanup Kit as part of the Stewardship Travel program! From helping to restore native plants, to helping maintain trails, you can feel good about making a difference while enjoying SLO County!
  • SLO County has a seaside castle. What other county in California can say that? Hearst Castle is a renowned landmark near the town of San Simeon, a mammoth mansion with 165 rooms, intricate grounds and landscaping, and even its own exotic zoo! Anyone can stop by to take photos from the outside or to take a tour of the inside.
  • In SLO County, you can see dozens of elephant seals just hanging out, soaking up the sun. The Piedras Blancas Rookery in San Simeon is home to elephant seals, which are the second-largest seal on Earth. Once you stop and take some photos, it’ll be hard to pry yourself away as you watch them interact right along the shore. It’s right down the road from Hearst Castle, too!
  • In SLO County, we’ve also got the biggest flying birds on the continent, the California condors. They have a wingspan of over 10 feet, but until you see one in person, it’s hard to actually fathom the size. They almost went extinct in the 1980’s, and they are still critically endangered. Head to the Hi Mountain Lookout in the Los Padres National Forest to try and spot one!
  • In SLO County, you know you’re living in the happiest place in America, deemed that by National Geographic. Reasons for this include lots of green spaces, pedestrian zones and wide sidewalks, abundant bike lanes, limited traffic and pollution, healthy people, no drive-through diners, a weekly farmers market, farm-to-table food and so much more.
