Yahoo Finance recently recommended asking yourself why you want to sell your home, as a way to help you come to a confident decision. If life circumstances have changed and you’d like to move up to a bigger home, or you need to move down to a cheaper mortgage, or you’d like to move closer to family and friends, these are all excellent reasons to sell as soon as you’re ready, so the next chapter in your life can begin.

If you want to move up, now is definitely the time to sell, while mortgage rates are near record lows. They have nowhere to go but up, and home prices are still increasing as well, so the sooner you buy your next home, the more you can save on it.

If you think you’re ready to sell your Central California home this spring, here are some steps to take now, according to Zillow, to prep your home for a sale:

  • Inspect. It’s wise to spend money on your own home inspection before a buyer comes in and does one, so you know what you’re up against. If there are any small issues that come up, you can deal with them before listing your home. If big issues come up, you can decide how you will address them.
  • Stash. Walk through your home and try to see it from a buyer’s perspective. Now is the time to declutter and remove all the items that a buyer wouldn’t want to see. Pack anything you won’t be needing until after your move, and remove anything you won’t be needing again. Clean and organize.
  • Improve. Decide if there are any improvements that need to be made to your Central California home before you list. Little upgrades can make a big difference when selling, such as fresh coats of paint in some rooms, minor kitchen and bathroom upgrades, new address numbers outside and the like.
  • Research. Buyers can do all the research they want to do online now, so it’s wise for you to do some quick research of your own. Make sure there are no outstanding issues with your home with the local building department, verify property records and make sure your title report is clean.
