According to the Spring Houzz Landscaping Survey, 56 percent of homeowners say they’re making updates to improve their yards for entertaining, and 55 percent said they are tackling outdoor projects to fix yard issues, such as sun exposure or privacy.
Because we have gorgeous weather here in Central California, it’s no wonder that Lake Nacimiento homeowners want to spend more time outdoors! Some of the most popular updates include decks, barbecues, fire pits, sound systems and outdoor kitchens.
To improve the visual appeal of these spaces, homeowners often add lighting to the deck and patio, paths from one space to another, trees and shrubs, stairways and fountains.
If you really want to go all out, the survey found that while pools were most popular in the South, homeowners in the West are most likely to add a hot tub to their property.
As long as you’re sprucing up your exterior space, you might as well make it as eco-friendly as possible, right? Green options include LED or solar-powered lighting, native plant choices and lawn alternatives.
Overall, outdoor updates were in the middle of the list of the most common remodeling projects of 2013, according to the National Associate of Home Builder’s Remodeling Market Index. On this list, bathroom remodeling was ranked on top, followed by kitchen remodeling, window or door replacements, whole house remodeling, room additions, property damage repair, handyman services, and then decks, followed by siding and finished basements.
However, when you live somewhere as gorgeous as Lake Nacimiento in Central California, you can’t help but want to be outside as much as possible! Imagine sitting on your outdoor deck, music playing, and a glass of local Central California wine in your hand. Sounds magical!
