Monterey County is a popular tourist destination year-round, but as your Central California real estate agent, I want to point out that it’s also a fantastic place to live! There is always so much to see and do. In fact, SFGate just recently shared a list of ways to enjoy Monterey County this summer, with their top 10 picks. Pull out your calendar and mark these down!
- Big Sur International Short Film Screening Series. Film and art professionals narrow down the short film entries from hundreds to 50, so that you can enjoy the 50 best short films on a giant outdoor screen, with the coastal cliffs as your backdrop. This takes place every Thursday from now until Aug. 27 at Henry Miller Memorial Library. It’s free, but donations are accepted.
- Monterey BaconFest. Need I say more? This takes place June 27 and 28 at Monterey County Fairgrounds and includes bacon cook-offs, bacon cupcakes, bacon margaritas and pretty much everything else you can think of. You can also expect some great musical performances, including Lukas Nelso, Jim Lauderdale and more. Tickets cost between $10 and $15.
- California Rodeo Salinas. Who can turn down four days of bull riding, bronc braving, mutton busting, steer wrestling, barrel racing and freestyle bullfighting? Head on out to the Salinas Sports Complex July 16-19 in your cowboy hats and boots. Tickets cost between $7 and $20.
- Carmel Bach Festival. For some classier fun, head to Sunset Center and various other locations around Carmel-by-the-Sea between July 18 and Aug. 1 for two weeks of the Baroque master open. This includes master classes, chamber concerts, soloists, lectures and more. Cost is between $10 and $125 per event.
- West End Celebration. Look ahead to August and you’ve got this free, hip festival to look forward to in Sand City, which includes more than 100 artists, galleries and artisans, along with indie musical groups. This will take place Aug. 21-23.
More events on the list include Monterey Car Week, Monterey County Fair, Northern California Renaissance Faire and Monterey Jazz Festival, with details on each one. These four events all take place in late summer.
