Move from One Central California Home to Another with Ease

Central California Moving Tips

Are you looking to sell your Central California home so that you can buy a Central California home that is bigger and better? Are you looking to downsize, or do you need to relocate? No matter what your situation is, moving out of your current home and into a new home can be a stressful experience, not to mention emotional. You’ve most likely grown an attachment to your Central California home over the years.

As your Central California real estate agent, I’d like to share some tips with you on how to make this home-selling and home-buying process easier for you!

1.  Take photos of your old house. Whether it’s before or after you stage your home to sell, but before you pack anything into boxes, take lots of photos of your house. Take photos of each room. Consider taking a video as you walk through the home. That way, even if you start to forget what it looked like down the road, or your kids forget, you can always look back and remember the memories that took place in those rooms.

2.  Throw a going away dinner or party. You don’t want said party to get too out of control, so you’re not paying for damage control, but invite family, friends and neighbors over for one last hurrah. You can keep it simple and serve food or snacks on paper plates, so there is no cleanup. You can even use boxes as tables! Reminisce about the good times inside your home.

3.  Pack the essentials. While you pack all of your belongings into boxes, pack a duffle bag or suitcase for the new home with some clothes and the essentials that you use on a daily basis. Throw a few nostalgic items in there too, like a framed photo you love, or a candle with a scent you love. Display these items in your new home right away so that it feels, smells and looks like home.

4.  Get creative. Make the home feel homey by painting the walls, hanging some art, hanging curtains, buying fresh flowers for a vase, or buying firewood for the fireplace. Accessorize with rugs, pillows or throws. No one wants to live in a neutral décor zone forever!

5.  Host a housewarming party. Invite your family, friends and new neighbors over to the new abode. It doesn’t matter whether this happens before or after you unpack your boxes. Don’t feel like the place needs to look perfect. Moving is a work-in-progress. Just do it as a way to fill the space with laughter and new memories.
