How to Quickly Prepare Your Central California Home for Guests

Are you hosting a holiday gathering at your Central California home this month? Are you hosting out-of-town guests? Either way, you might be stressed over all the work you need to do around the house.

Porch.com shared tips on how to prepare your home for guests in less than 30 minutes! If you focus on certain areas of the home, your home will look up to par for their arrival in no time. As your Central California real estate agent, I am here to fill you in on which areas to focus on.

  • Decorate your doorway. Your doorway is the first thing guests see and notice when arriving at your Central California home, so if you didn’t have time to decorate this year, just hang a beautiful wreath on your door. This is welcoming, seasonal and festive, and super easy and quick.
  • Organize the entryway. The second place guests see is the entryway inside your home, and first impressions stick. If there is anywhere in the house you should organize, it’s here. Make room for their coats, purses, shoes, luggage, gifts, etc. Decide now where you’ll store all of their belongings.
  • Freshen up the bathroom. Every guest will use your spare bathroom at least once, so take a few minutes to put out fresh towels and to wipe down the sink, mirror, toilet and shower. Consider lighting a candle or placing an air freshener in there.
  • Put out fresh flowers. Even if your home isn’t spotless, putting out fresh flowers can make it seem like you have your stuff together! Choose a bright bouquet or winter-blooming plant and place it somewhere with high traffic, like the kitchen or dining room table.
  • Set the dinner table. Another way to appear organized is to set the table at which you’ll be sitting at for dinner. Do this before the guests arrive, so it looks ready to go. Plates, centerpieces, glasses and napkins will all be fine to sit out overnight.
  • Arrange the living room. Move furniture around so that it’s ideal for socializing. Make sure the space has enough chairs for everyone to sit comfortably, and arrange them so they are facing each other. Set out coasters, clean space off tables, and add throw blankets if guests get cold.
  • Clean out the fridge. You want to make sure there is room in the refrigerator for all the food you’re going to eat, and you want your guests to be able to easily find what they’re looking for, like coffee creamer or snack dip. Wipe down the walls and shelves and change out the odor-absorbing baking soda.
