Go Fishing at Lake Nacimiento for Father’s Day!

Screen Shot 2013-05-02 at 10.57.36 AMFather’s Day is coming up on Sunday, June 15. Many families in Central California make it an annual tradition to go fishing at Lake Nacimiento this weekend. If your dad loves fishing, or you are a dad who loves fishing, this is a great time of year for it! The fish are catching, the water is warm, and the memories will last a lifetime.

Currently, the water temperature of Lake Nacimiento is between 70 and 75 degrees. Water elevation is 724 feet. A fishing tournament was held at the lake on May 18, and the largest fish caught was 4.22 pounds and was a large spotted bass. Winning bag weight was 11.18 pounds, which contained five spotted bass.

As your Lake Nacimiento real estate agent, I’d like to share the latest fishing report with you from The California Parks Company, so you know what to expect when you head out here:

  • Spotted Bass bite is currently the most prevalent in Lake Nacimiento.
  • Many anglers have had luck with plastic worms near the back of Las Tablas and the point between Snake and Dip Creeks.
  • White Rooster tails have been producing White Bass action.
  • Several boils have been seen in a variety of locations around the lake.

Want to try to beat a record weight this weekend for Father’s Day? Here are the current standing records:

  • White Bass: 4 pounds, 2 ounces
  • Largemouth Bass: 9 pounds, 14 ounces
  • Spotted Bass: 5 pounds, 3 ounces
  • Smallmouth Bass: 4 pounds, 10 ounces
  • Channel Catfish: 20 pounds, 2 ounces
  • Crappie: 3 pounds, 8 ounces
  • Bluegill: 1 pound, 12 ounces
  • Carp: 52 pounds (this was a state record in 1968)

Just last week, on June 1, a largemouth was caught near the mouth of Las Tablas on a plastic worm by Morgan Oliver, and the beast tipped the scale at 11 pounds, 14 ounces. This is an unofficial record, because it wasn’t weighed by a qualified representative, but it was the largest black bass seen at Lake Nacimiento to date!

Fishing at Lake Nacimiento can be relaxing or exciting, but either way, it’s a great way to spend a hot summer day at the lake with family or friends. If you’re looking for a way to spend Father’s Day, this is a great idea! Of course, boating, floating and swimming at the lake are great ideas, too.
