Do You Know How Dog-Friendly SLO County Is?

SLO County
Bring your dog with you when exploring SLO County!

As a SLO County real estate agent, I talk a lot about what a wonderful place SLO County is to live. Did you know that the Central Coast is as dog-friendly as it is people-friendly? The area is loaded with beaches and trails where dogs are allowed, and for free reign, there are tons of dog parks.

If you have recently relocated to the Central Coast, or you recently adopted a dog into your family, keep this list of dog-friendly places in SLO County handy!

If your dog wants a day running in the sand and jumping into waves, here are your beach options:

  • Dogs love Lake Nacimiento! Take your dogs for a dip in the lake any time you please. Here, you don’t have to worry if Fido drinks the water, it’s salt-free.
  • In Avila Beach, your pup can run on the beaches before 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m. to the left and right of Avila Beach Pier. At Olde Port Beach and Fisherman’s Beach, they can run free all day, with leash-optional policies.
  • In Cayucos, dogs are free to wade in the water and sand anywhere, from close to the pier or all the way to Morro Bay! In Morro Bay, they can run free on North Point Beach, or they can be leashed and walked around Morro Rock Beach.
  • For a less crowded option, head to Montana de Oro State Park near Los Osos/Baywood Park. Take Los Osos Valley Road to Pecho Valley Road, and take that to Spooner’s Cove, where you’ll find a spot perfect for a day at the beach, dogs or no dogs.
  • In Pismo Beach, enjoy a stroll with your dog to the left of Pismo Beach pier, or avoid the sand by taking a walk around Dinosaur Caves Park in Shell Beach. You’ll still get great ocean views!
  • Oceano Dunes State Park is another great option for dogs, located just south of Pismo Beach. You can drive right onto the sand and let your dog run and play as much as they want.

Beaches are a great way for dogs to let out steam, as are dog parks! At dog parks, you can befriend other dog owners in the area, and dogs can make friends, too. There are tons of options:

  • Heilmann Dog Park in Atascadero
  • Elm Street Dog Park in Arroyo Grande
  • Cambria Dog Park in Cambria
  • Del Mar Dog Park in Morro Bay
  • Nipomo Dog Park in Nipomo
  • Sherwood Dog Park in Paso Robles
  • Vineyard Dog Park in Templeton
  • Laguna Lake Park in San Luis Obispo, no fence
  • El Chorro Dog Park in SLO, no fence
  • Dinosaur Caves Park in Pismo Beach, no fence

There are also numerous trails that dogs will love as much as you will! Check out the hiking trail options that SLO CAL recommends for dog owners.

The Central Coast is the perfect place to call home for every member of your family! Contact me for help buying or selling real estate in the SLO County real estate market this spring.
