Chimney Fire Update 8-29-16 – Lots of GREAT NEWS!

Chimney Fire Updates
Latest Chimney Fire Affected Areas

Since our last blog update on the Chimney Fire last Wednesday, Aug. 24, there have been outstanding advances and fantastic news! The latest is that as of 5 p.m. today, Monday, all Chimney Fire evacuations will have been LIFTED. This includes the Bryson Hesperia area of Monterey County, including all areas south and west of Lake San Antonio. Hearst Castle is also now out of harm’s way.

Residents will be able to return to their properties and all road closures will be removed. Evacuation orders were lifted last week for Oak Shores and the surrounding area, and Lake Nacimiento is open to the public. I know firsthand how happy homeowners feel when they can return to their homes, and to still have homes to return to. Our prayers continue to go out to all those who lost homes in this devastating fire.

The latest CAL FIRE update on the Chimney Fire as of this morning was that the fire acreage was at 45,844 and containment has reached 61 percent. Fire remains burning in the North West area of the fire, but no more homes were lost. Fire crews are working on 100 percent containment in steep, difficult terrain with rising temperatures and lower humidity.

It is absolutely incredible what these firefighters and crews have done to keep us safe and to achieve increased containment almost every single day. We thank them with all of our hearts, and we continue to pray for their safety and for full containment as soon as possible!

The Oak Shores Community Association and many other sponsors will be hosting a Fireman and First Responder Appreciation BBQ this coming Sunday, Sept. 4, at 5 p.m. If you are interesting in attending or becoming a sponsor, please contact me for further details!

As a reminder, though evacuation orders have been lifted, residents are still asked to create and maintain defensible space and to harden their homes against flying embers. Also, be ready to evacuate at any time. Get your family and home a head start incase this needs to happen again, but pray that it does not!

If you are visiting the lake, the general public is reminded to use caution in the area, as there are still a large number of fire resources and firefighters in the area. Respect private property rights of nearby communities, and use every precaution against causing harm to the lake or surrounding area.
