Best Bike Trails in SLO County

Bike SLO County’s best bike paths!

Are you aware that May is SLO County Bike Month? As such, I’d like to share some of the best local bike trails with you! Visit San Luis Obispo County put together an extensive list of trails for every type of biking enthusiast, from mountain biking to casual cycling. As your Central California estate agent, I’ve summed up some of the trails for you here.

Madonna Mountain Rock Garden Trail
Type: Mountain Biking
Difficulty: Moderate

This trail is nice in that you can begin from downtown San Luis Obispo. The trail begins nearby and allows you to climb up above the city to view the city and its neighboring towns. On the way down, you can enjoy a variety of rocks in all shapes and sizes. The trail is 4.7 miles in length.

Montana de Oro State Park
Type: Mountain Biking
Difficulty: Beginner

This trail includes gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean as you ride through Manzanita trees and through the park. The Bluff Trail is a three-mile less strenuous trail, whereas the Islay Ridge to Easy Boundary is a 7.8-mile trail that is more moderate to advanced in difficulty. Your choice!

West Cuesta Ridge
Type: Mountain Biking
Difficulty: Moderate

This trail allows you to enjoy views all over SLO County! It’ll take you through the Lost Padres National Forest and through land owned by Cal Poly, the Land Conservancy and the city. It includes hairpin turns, small water crossings, panoramic views and more. It’s 10 miles in length.

Bob Jones City to Sea Trail
Type: Cycling
Difficulty: Beginner

If you’re looking for a trail that is off the beaten path, away from busy streets and vehicles, but level and simple, this is the trail for you. It begins in San Luis Obispo and leads straight to Avila Beach. There are many great sights along the way, and even a winery you can stop at! It’s about three miles in length.

Paso Robles Vineyard Route
Type: Cycling
Difficulty: Intermediate

This trail begins at Lake Nacimiento Drive and will have you turn left onto Adelaida Road. You’ll twist and turn your way deep into wine country while enjoying views of vineyards and tree-covered roads. If you go all the way, you’ll end up back at Downtown Paso Robles Park! It is 27.5 miles in length.

Cambria to Lighthouse
Type: Cycling
Difficulty: Beginner/Intermediate

This trail takes you right along the coast as you enjoy ocean views to your right and San Simeon State Park to your left. You might even spot some Hearst Castle zebras or elephant seals along the way as you head toward the lighthouse. This trail is 26.6 miles long and begins at Moonstone Beach Park!
