Wildlife in Monterey County

Now that Memorial Day weekend is over in Central California, you might be wondering what type of activities and attractions to enjoy this summer. Now would be a great time to make a list! There is never a dull moment in Monterey County during the summer months, with events and activities flourishing for locals and tourists alike.

Worried about splurging more than your budget will allow? As your Central California real estate agent, I am going to share some activities and attractions around Monterey County that are either free, or that cost less than $20 for a family to enjoy together. See Monterey put together an extensive list, and I’ve summarized it here for you:

1.  Visit Elkhorn Slough to view the plethora of sea lions, sea otters, seals, pelicans and other members of marine life in Central California! These animals naturally congregate at this location daily, so you’re sure to see some wildlife without having to search for it. It’s a beautiful sight, and it’s conveniently located right off Highway One.

2.  To catch sight of marine life inside the water, you can go tidepooling at Point Pinos in Pacific Grove, which is known as one of the richest tidepooling habitats in the world! You can view starfish, sand dollars, hermit crabs and much more. Just make sure to enjoy this marine life with your eyes only while being careful not to disturb it.

3.  Take a hike! As your Central California real estate agent, I’ve shared some of the best hiking trails in Monterey County with you already. Pinnacles National Park was included in that list, because of its variety of landscaping, wildlife, views and trail levels. You can view birds, bats, butterflies, deer, foxes, bobcats and possibly even a California condor! Free tours with a park ranger are available.

4.  Once you view all of this wildlife in Monterey County, head to the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History to learn about it! The museum has exhibits about native plants, animals and geography. Admission only costs $5.95 for kids and $8.95 for adults.

5.  Travel through time when you visit the Agricultural and Rural Life Museum in San Lorenzo Park in King City! You can view Monterey County as it was 100 years ago with a train depot, a one-room schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop and more.

6.  If your kids need to burn off some summer energy, take them to Lake El Estero Park’s Dennis the Menace Playground, where you’ll find all sorts of unique playground equipment, such as tunnels and climbing walls for kinds under 10. For older kids, the Skate Park is next door. Both are free!

7.  Spend a day at Lake Nacimiento. Go out on a boat ride or go fishing. Take a hike around the lake, or sit and enjoy a picnic. Swim. Invite your friends and family out for a day at the lake. If you have a Lake Nacimiento home, you can host the after party!

Enjoy these summer months in Monterey County without having to spend a lot of money. When ready to buy a Central California home, or ready to sell your Central California home, contact me, your Central California real estate agent. Summer is a hot season for real estate activity, don’t wait!
