SLO County Attractions

As your Central California real estate agent, I love to update you on special events and activities taking place throughout the year, since there is no shortage of them! There is always some type of event coming up to look forward to. However, there are tons of attractions and activities available all the time, year-round, for residents and tourists to enjoy. I’d like to share some of those with you today!

The Bold Italic blog recently shared a list of awesome things to do in SLO County. As I summarize them here, check off how many you have done! If there are any you haven’t ever done, or haven’t done in a while, make some space in your calendar.

  • Visit Hearst Castle. Yes, it’s a tourist attraction in SLO County, but rightly so! Even if you’ve toured the castle, there are numerous other tours for you to choose from. From the basic Grand Rooms tour, to a seasonal evening tour with guides dressed in period attire, there is something for everyone to enjoy. It makes for some great family photos and some great facts for local trivia!
  • Spot local wildlife. When you go to Hearst Castle, look for the zebras that are roaming the grounds right alongside cows. (William Randolph Hearst was rich enough to have zoo animals on his property back in the day. Zebras still remain!) Stop by Elephant Seal Vista Point to view tons of elephant seals, and sometimes baby seals, sunbathing on the beach. Bird watchers can spot a plethora of birds, too!
  • Relax at Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort and Spa. If you have never visited this gem, do so! This hillside resort is surrounded by woodsy views, but still is only minutes from the beach. You can stay the night or just make an appointment for a massage and/or a soak in a mineral springs hot tub. They also have yoga classes, a restaurant and a juice bar!
  • Visit Avila Beach. Avila Beach is a great place to enjoy the beach without battling with tons of tourists. You can walk out on the pier, brave the cold waters with a surfboard, or just walk along the boardwalk and shop or eat at the local businesses. The Bob Jones Bike Trail connects Avila Beach to many of the resorts, including Sycamore Mineral Springs, so take a hike or bike ride while there!
  • Sip wine in Paso Robles. Any local knows that you don’t have to travel to Sonoma or Napa for fine wine. Paso Robles resides right in the midst of rolling green hills in SLO County and is home to dozens of wineries and tasting rooms. Whether you visit a vineyard, or you just pop into a tasting room in downtown Paso, you are sure to find a wine that you love. Paso always has small-town community events to enjoy, too!

For a list of more year-round attractions in SLO County, check out the whole list from The Bold Italic. As a local, are there any that you would include on this list that weren’t mentioned? Share!
