Supervisors Approve Nearly $1 Million to Cover Costs at Lake Nacimiento

Monterey County’s parks officials have been tapping restricted fund accounts from the Quagga mussel program and trailer fire insurance proceeds to cover Lake Nacimiento cost overruns for years in the hopes that the resort operation would eventually make enough money to replenish the funds.

On Tuesday, the bill came due as the Board of Supervisors agreed to devote $963,633 in dwindling county general fund contingencies to cover the restricted fund spending as county Resource Management Agency officials acknowledged the resort operation likely won’t realize a profit for years to come, blaming the impact and aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In all, the county board approved $1.43 million for the Lake Nacimiento enterprise fund, including the restricted fund spending and a $470,279 loss for the 2019-20 fiscal year, which county officials also blamed on the pandemic’s impact. Read More at The Monterey Herald.

New Wildfire Breaks Out Near Dolan Fire

A new wildfire, named the Coleman Fire, broke out Sunday afternoon adjacent to the Dolan Fire on the Los Padres National Forest and Fort Hunter Liggett army base, west of King City.

As of Monday, the fire has grown to an estimated 500 acres and is 0% contained. Voluntary evacuation orders were reported for the nearby Pine, Reliz and Coleman canyon areas.

Resources assigned to the Dolan Fire are actively engaged with the new start, according to the Eastern Area Incident Management Team, which has been delegated authority for suppression of the Coleman Fire.

At this time, guests, guest boats, and renters are all now welcome in Oak Shores. The pool is open with restrictions (see below).

We hope our Oak Shores Dragon Dweller families are all staying safe and healthy!

The Oak Shores Pool is open with restrictions, and by reservation only:

We book reservations for the pool starting every Friday at 8 am for the upcoming week, Monday through Saturday.

Pool reservations can be made for 9 am to 6 pm Tuesday through Friday, and 9 am to 4 pm on Mondays and Saturdays, in one (1) hour time slots, by availability. The pool is only open when we have on-site staff to monitor the pool reservations.

9 am to 10 am and 3 pm to 4 pm every day is for water exercise and lap swimming only. A maximum of six (6) members are allowed during those times. Couples and individuals are encouraged to book the exercise time slots to keep the other time slots available for families.

During family reservation times, reservations will be taken for one (1) family at a time of members, for one (1) hour time slots (which means that you are able to swim for one (1) hour), limited to a maximum of 10 family members. Families are limited to two (2) pool reservation’s per week.

The Board of Director’s has adopted Emergency COVID-19 Pool Rules which set in place the restrictions and guidelines.

An Acknowledgment and Hold Harmless – COVID 19 Agreement must be signed at check- in. Page 5 and 6 of the above linked guidelines is the agreement, if you choose to download and print the agreement prior to check-in.

YOU MAY BRING YOUR OWN CHAIRS TO THE POOL. THE COMMUNITY POOL FURNITURE IS NOT OUT AND CANNOT BE USED.

Call 805-472-2233 during business hours between 8 am and 4 pm Monday through Saturday to make a reservation. Again, we will start taking reservation’s every Friday at 8 am for the upcoming week.

Please make sure that you have a verbal confirmation of your reservation time before arriving.

No walk-ins are allowed and no one is allowed in the pool area unless they have a reservation. A fine of $500 will be issued to those that violate any of the COVID-19 Emergency Pool Policies.
