Moving Organization Tips for Central Coast Buyers and Sellers

Moving Tips for Central Coast

Whether you’re buying a Central Coast home, selling your Central Coast home, or both, a move is in your future. Moving can be stressful and hectic if you don’t plan ahead and get organized. As your Central Coast real estate agent, I’d like to share some tips with you, so when the time comes to move, all you feel is excitement!

Here are some tips derived from a recent RISMedia article:

60 Days before Move:

Go through all of your belongings and set aside the items you no longer use or need. Once you have done that, separate those belongings into four piles: Sell, donate, recycle and trash.

Hold a garage sale to sell as much of your “sell pile” as possible. The more you get rid of, the less you’ll have to move! It’ll be great to have some extra spending cash during this time as well.

30 Days before Move:

Check in with your mover to see what the schedule for moving day looks like, and what everyone’s roll will be, so you can feel prepared.

Ask your moving company if they will be able to connect/disconnect cable, internet, electric any other additional services you’re using. If so, those are tasks you don’t need to worry about.

Create a packing/unpacking plan/checklist for yourself and your family.

14 Days before Your Move:

Clean out any rooms that haven’t been emptied yet and start packing all of your items into boxes. Label these boxes by what is in each box, and which room they box belongs in.

Collect valuable items, such as jewelry, antiques and the like, and keep these separate from the rest of your packed belongings.

Continue this process up until moving day.

Moving Day:

Compile a list of all the items you will need first in your new home, such as toilet paper, bottled water, snacks, towels, sheets, etc. Pack a suitcase for yourself with these necessary items.

Take inventory of all boxes that were picked up and delivered to your new home, making sure everything is accounted for before the movers leave.

Check out the RISMedia article for more tips. The sooner you start planning and getting organized, the easier the moving process will be on you and your family. This should be an exciting time for you, not a stressful one!
