Derek Low, an adventure blogger, recently wrote a post calling the Central Coast region California’s best-kept secret. The main reason he says this is because this region offers everything from wine to beaches, without hordes of tourists. As your Central Coast real estate agent, I would have to agree! This region has so much to offer for all different lifestyles.
As the post says, tens of millions of tourists visit California, most heading to the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas. However, right in between these cities, the Central Coast resides, which the post says, “is a fairytale stretch of California coast packed with wild beaches, misty redwood forests where hot springs hide, and rolling golden hills of fertile vineyards and farm fields.”
He summed up the Central Coast pretty beautifully, didn’t he? Here are some of our local attractions that he recommends:
- Monterey Bay Aquarium, commonly regarded as the best aquarium in the world
- Highway 1, the best way to explore the Central Coast with beautiful views
- Bixby Bay in Big Sur, ideal for photos and scenic views you’ll never forget
- The Post Ranch Inn, or the Sierra Mar restaurant, for some of the best sunsets
- Nepenthe, which has the same great views for a cheaper cost and great beer
- McWay Falls, which is only a three-minute hike but brings together all the beauty
- Kirk Creek Campground, or any other Central Coast campsites with stunning views
- Elephant Seal Rookery, for a beach populated with hundreds of elephant seals
- Hearst Castle, a gigantic mansion that is just around the corner from the seals
- Madonna Inn, a legendary hotel that features 110 different themed rooms
- Bubblegum Alley, a literal alley of chewed bubblegum, because it’s unique and artsy
- Oceano Dunes, sand dunes that you can drive your vehicle right onto
