Now that we’re in the heart of the spring season at Lake Nacimiento, it’s time to get out and enjoy lake activities and this beautiful weather! As your Lake Nacimiento real estate agent, I’m here to give you some suggestions on how to fill your spring days at the lake.
Lake Nacimiento is the only lake in California stocked with white bass, and spring and fall are the best seasons for finding them. Head out on the lake for a morning, day or evening of fishing. You will find white bass in the main channel, the narrows, Oak Shores, Town Creek and Las Tablas Creek, all the way up the Nacimiento River.
You can also find just about every other type of native warm water fish, including largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill and crappie, carp and catfish. Black bass can be found around brush, rocks and off the points. Catfish can be found in shallow areas and at heads of coves. Bluegills can be found anywhere along the shores, but especially the inlets. Crappie can be found where there is cover, often in Dip Creek, Las Tablas, Snake Creek and Cantinas Creek.
If you’re not up for fishing, spring is a great season for taking any boat out on the lake and enjoying the serene waters before the busy summer months arrive. In the summer, you’ll see many pontoon and speed boats out, carrying water sport enthusiasts, families, swimmers, you name it. Spring is a great season for taking a canoe or kayak out, or teaching your teen how to drive a boat, without having as many people to maneuver around.
If you’re staying off the water, the spring is a great time to take strolls around the pine and oak groves that surround the lake, or along the shoreline. If you’d like to rest, sit out on your balcony or down by your boat dock, and read a book, catch up with a friend, drink your morning coffee or just take in the views. It’s easy for lakefront homeowners to forget how fortunate we are to enjoy gorgeous lake views every day, but it’s nice to stop and acknowledge it every so often!
If you live in Oak Shores, take a swim in the clubhouse pool, it is open and heated for the season! Sign your kids up for the Annual Kids Fishing Derby on April 28. In Heritage Ranch, a No Limit Texas Hold’em Tournament is coming up on April 14 at the Heritage Village Senior Center. You can also sign up for an array of fitness classes at the Lake Life Wellness Center to help you get in shape for summer! There are always local activities to enjoy when you live in the gated communities of Oak Shores and Heritage Ranch.
