San Miguel Area Information
An 18th Century Treasure
Just north of Paso Robles is a sleepy town of San Miguel where visitors and residents enjoy the historic gem of San Miguel Arcangel, the 16th California mission tracing the El Camino Real trail. Founded in 1797 by Franciscan Father Fermin Lasuen, it continues to be a parish church today. This rural treasure hasn't changed much during the past centuries.
Unfortuanately, due to earthquake damage, the Mission is temporarily closed to visitors. However, the grounds and outbuildings, including a delightful museum shop, are educational treasures not to be missed.
A Timeless Paradise
In the surrounding hillsides, you'll find rows and rows of vineyards, almond trees, and horse and cattle ranches reminding us of an all but forgotten way of life. Many new vineryards and wineries are popping up here, some with tasting rooms. The winding roads are perfect for bicycle rides in the country.
San Miguel is a mixture of many cities and towns but you'll recognize one thing - the people of San Miguel enjoy sharing their slice of paradise with travelers.
