As we mentioned in a previous blog post, First Night Monterey is the big NYE attraction in Monterey County this year! SF Gate named it as one of the top reasons to visit Monterey County right now. As your Central California real estate agent, I’d like to fill you in on the details of this family-friendly, full-day event.
First Night Monterey takes place from 3 p.m. to midnight on Dec. 31. It’s an alcohol-free event, and a walkable event, that is suitable for every one of every age, so bring the whole family! You can purchase buttons ahead of time, which is your ticket into the event. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for kids when purchased ahead of time.
The theme for this year is “Art Connecting Communities.” Head to Downtown Monterey, where you can enjoy over 22 performance sites, indoor and outdoor. An Opening Ceremony begins on the Colton Lawn stage on Pacific Street at 3 p.m., followed by Kids Night Out at 3:30 p.m. This includes interactive art activities, face painting, henna tattoo artists, puppet theater, folk music, magic shows and more.
A Twilight Procession will begin at 5:30 p.m. down Alvarado Street. Performances for all ages include classical, hip hop, jazz, reggae and more! Dance your night away to music, make a sculpture, appreciate the written word and more with numerous events and activities in the evening.
A Grand Finale concert takes place at 11:15 p.m. You have two indoor options and two outdoor options, so you’re sure to find one that suits your personality! Enjoy jack-inflected Brazilian music by the Samba Cruz Trio, Blues at Eleven’s at the Golden State Theater, Sambahemians/Samba Legal at the Wells Fargo Stage and Coffis Brothers and the Mountainmen at Rabobank Stage. Each will include its own countdown to midnight!
