LAKE NACIMIENTO WEATHER AND WATER UPDATE:

Lake Nacimiento's level is currently less than half full at 24% due to the minimal rain. This low level
brings with it increased risk of accidents so be extra careful while out boating. For additional information, see HERE.

The West ramp is closed due to low water level and the main marina ramp is close to being closed. The auxiliary ramp will be open soon.

Lake Nacimiento’s levels are currently at 24% and an elevation of 729.3 with
a total of .33 inches of rain fall so far this year.

Toys For Tots Toy Drive

Freezing Temperatures Still a Threat

We have been experiencing extreme freezing temperatures for the last several days and Janice Gillenwater graciously agreed to check owners homes to be sure that water has been turned off and that pipes have been drained. She has helped over 50 home owners this past week and will continue to do so. If you would like Janice to check your home, please contact her at (805) 472-9404.

Her daughter is getting married in April and this money will be going towards her wedding fund.

North San Luis Obispo County Active Listings: There are a total of 1,208 properties actively on the market with an average list price of $612,459.

North San Luis Obispo County Sale Pending/Sold: There are currently 347 properties with sales pending and 1,489 properties that closed in the past 6 months. The average sold price is $444,998 and the average time on market is 71 days.

North San Luis Obispo County Absorption Rate/Supply: The current month supply of homes on the market is defined as the ratio of the current inventory of active listings compared to sales. In other words, given recent sales activity, one can estimate how long it would take for the entire inventory of active listings to sell, assuming no new listings were to appear on the market. At the present time it will take about eight months to sell all of the current active listings, without adding any new homes for sale.

Fantastic Fall Weather and Road Work Update

We have been having such wonderful fall weather with average temps in the mid to high 80’s. I hope you are all enjoying it as much as I am. Starting soon we will be doing road work beginning the first of November. The entire community will be microsurfaced, except for the road from the golf course to the gate.

Local Pumpkin Patch is Open

My Granny’s Gardens at San Marcos Ranch is celebrating it’s third year with farm-fresh produce, a huge corn maze, haunted Lost Dutchman’s Mine, picnic grounds, farm animals and fun for the whole family. With over three acres of pumpkins, a corn maze, the haunted Lost Dutchman’s Mine and critters galore, My Granny’s Gardens at San Marcos Ranch is a Central Coast pumpkin patch offering up fun for the entire family from Sept. 28 through Oct. 31.

Carolyn Davis, better known as “Granny,” and David Poer, aka “Granddad,” are entering their third year of offering visitors a unique tour of their picturesque ranch – with its scenic lake, walking paths and more than 135 varieties of squash and gourds ripe for the picking at their pumpkin farm in Paso Robles. They could not be more thrilled to welcome old and new friends this season.

“When I hear the laughter of the kids coming from the lake down toward the barn, I know that we are open – it’s just the best,” Davis said. With a theme geared toward family fun, everyone is sure to have a grand time at My Granny’s Gardens, from the youngest tikes to the young at heart. Kids ages 2-6 will delight in driving through the twists and turns of the Straw Maze in electric carts and kids of all ages will enjoy visiting the assortment of critters, from tiny horses to very big birds. “We have an emu and lots of miniature horses,” Davis said. “We have Jacob sheep, miniature donkeys and all sorts of fun animals for everyone to see.”

The pumpkin patch offers up a massive assortment of – what else – pumpkins! Looking for a huge, itty bitty, tall and skinny, striped, blue, red, white, warty or a plain ole orange pumpkin? With over three acres of pumpkins, squashes and gourds to choose from, the Pumpkin Patch has an ample supply of delicious varieties for your cooking and decorating needs.

“The crops are continually getting ripe throughout the season, so no matter when you come out to the ranch there is always something delightful to choose from,” Davis said. “We have a great assortment, including some very rare selections in our Epicurean Corner. We have it all – but I lean towards what is delicious and unique.”

Don’t forget to take part in the Pumpkin Toss – prizes are handed out to anyone who participates. Every week the highest score in each age group wins a T-shirt.

Find peppers, tomatoes, indian corn and more in the Vegetable Garden and walk across bridges, past waterfalls and a trickling brook leading to the secret home of the Gargoyles in the Herb Garden.

The wacky, witchy, wonderful corn maze, with turns and surprises around every corner, is fun for all ages. Solve a puzzle and earn a prize from the Witch’s Cauldron. For the most daring visitors, the Lost Dutchman’s Mine, rumored to be haunted by the Old Dutchman that entered the mine 100 years ago seeking gold, delivers thrills, shrills and chills. “The mine is too scary for little guys, but it really is a lot of fun,” Davis said.

Not to be missed – Skeleton George – a rascally sort of guy sporting a cowboy hat, boots and sunglasses who likes to jump around to different locations throughout t
he ranch every week.

“He’s always doing something different, he might be driving a tractor or up in the tree house,” Davis said. “So we’ll ask, ‘where’s George?’ and if the kids can tell us they will get a prize.”

Alongside Granny and Granddad, Davis’ son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Lisa Davis and their children, Skye and Sloane, lend a hand to ensure the success of Granny’s Gardens each year. Another son, Scott, as well as daughter, Summer Barnes and her husband Pat Barnes, and her children, Mace and Makenna, are residents of Southern California and assist with the website and occasional visits to the property as well. “This has been a lot of fun to do as a family,” Davis said.

Entrance into the ranch is free. Individual tickets for purchases or activities are just $3, or $65 for a book of 24 and $125 for two books (48 tickets). School group discounts available Monday – Friday. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch or snacks for their journey out to the ranch. Bottled water, juices and packaged snacks are available for purchase.

September 2013 Market Watch for North San Luis Obispo County and Monterey County

North San Luis Obispo County Active Listings: There are a total of 1,505 properties actively on the market with an average list price of $714,951.

North San Luis Obispo County Sale Pending/Sold: There are currently 383 properties with sales pending and 1,696 properties that closed in the past 6 months. The average sold price is $419,981 and the average time on market is 80 days.

In other words, given recent sales activity, one can estimate how long it would take for the entire inventory of active listings to sell, assuming no new listings were to appear on the market. At the present time it will take about eight months to sell all of the current active listings, without adding any new homes for sale.

Lake Nacimiento's level is currently less than half full at 37% due to the minimal rain. This low level
brings with it increased risk of accidents so be extra careful while out boating. For additional information, see HERE.

Lake Nacimiento’s levels are currently at 37% and an elevation of 746.2 with
a total of 5.6 inches of rain fall so far this year.

Join us on pontoon boat Thursdays. We gather at the docks at 5:45 and will leave on pontoon boats at 6PM to go enjoy the lake with friends. Please bring your own beverage and something to share for a potluck dinner. We usually get back in from the lake around 8:30 or so. Hope to see you soon.

Hydroelectric Power Deal with Monterey County and Corona Fizzles


The proposed deal to purchase hydroelectric power from Lake Nacimiento is over, leaving Monterey County water officials looking for a backup plan. David Chardavoyne, general manager of the Monterey County Water Resources Agency, said Corona power officials suddenly stopped communicating with agency representatives about the agreement. After weeks without a response, the agency was forced to issue a notice of termination.

Get your Boat in the Water Easier Next Year

End of season boat banding. Any owner who has a boat or watercraft that stays in Oak Shores can get their boat banded by code or gate. Call the gate or office to get this done. Town Hall Meeting with Frank Mecham

Supervisor Frank Mecham will attend the town meeting in Oak Shores. On Thursday, August 29 from 2-4 pm the Supervisor will be available to answer questions and discuss the status of a potential Fire Station in Oak Shores.

Cantina's Ranch Update


As previously discussed, the public hearing for the Cantina's Ranch Camp project at Lake Nacimiento was postponed. So far there isn't a rescheduled date but residents will be given at least 30 days notice of the meeting. See HERE for more information.

LAKE NACIMIENTO WEATHER AND WATER UPDATE:

Lake Nacimiento’s levels are currently less than half full at 40% due to the minimal rain. This low level brings with it increased risk of accidents so be extra careful while out boating. For more information, see HERE.

Lake Nacimiento’s levels are currently at 40% and an elevation of 750.5 with a total of 5.6 inches of rain fall so far this year.

Come enjoy the beautiful weather on Tuesdays at the pool at 6pm. You are welcome to bring your own beverage and something to share to eat. You are welcome to bring whatever you want. Please do not bring glass as its not allowed in the pool area

Join us on pontoon boat Thursdays. We gather at the docks at 5:45 and will leave on pontoon boats at 6PM to go enjoy the lake with friends. Please bring your own beverage and something to share for a potluck dinner. We usually get back in from the lake around 8:30 or so. Hope to see you soon.

New Development on Cantinas Ranch Camp Project

The July 11th was postponed. Their reasons are two-fold:

1. They would like an opportunity to respond to the comment letter from a neighbor to the west, which raised a number of CEQA questions that they feel can be better addressed in the environmental document and staff report. We are hoping that we will have the opportunity to address these concerns through our ongoing neighbor outreach, as well.

2. Additionally, they realize that Christmas Cove residents were not properly noticed of the hearing. As you probably know, all of the homes on Christmas Cove are located on a single parcel, with interest in the property held in part by each of the residents. Therefore, none of the actual residents of Christmas Cove show up on the County's tracking systems, through either the Assessor's Office or Planning Department. So, few of the Camp's closest neighbors were officially notified of the public hearing.

A new hearing date will be set as soon as possible. In the meantime an important note:

This delay creates an opportunity to reach out to the Camp's neighbors who, for whatever reason, have not been aware of our outreach efforts. Over the past few weeks, a number of neighbors have voiced concerns that may be addressed with additional information and interaction. We would like to plan additional outreach opportunities so that neighbors can become fully apprised of what is being proposed, and give us feedback.

Reservoir Release Schedule

The Monterey County Water Resources agency is looking at the repairs on the Hydro Electric plant at the Nacimiento Dam to be complete and up and running by August 15th. At that time typical maximum releases for this time of year of approximately 450cc will resume. We at Oak Shores hope to have launching facilities to get us through Labor Day and beyond. Rob Johnson from the water resources agency cautioned that this is a day to day operation and nothing is set in stone.

Paso Robles sends Nacimiento Water to River to Help Recharge Supply

The city is taking its allocation for the first time and filtering it into a pooling system on the sandy surface of the Salinas riverbed.

LAKE NACIMIENTO WEATHER AND WATER UPDATE:

Lake Nacimiento’s levels are currently less than half full at 43% due to the minimal rain. This low level brings with it increased risk of accidents so be extra careful while out boating. For more information, see HERE.

Lake Nacimiento’s levels are currently at 43% and an elevation of 7553.6 with a total of 5.6 inches of rain fall so far this year.






SUMMER

Come enjoy the beautiful weather on Tuesdays at the pool at 6pm. You are welcome to bring your own beverage and something to share to eat. You are welcome to bring whatever you want. Please do not bring glass as its not allowed in the pool area

Join us on pontoon boat Thursdays. We gather at the docks at 5:45 and will leave on pontoon boats at 6PM to go enjoy the lake with friends. Please bring your own beverage and something to share for a potluck dinner. We usually get back in from the lake around 8:30 or so. Hope to see you soon.

New Development on Cantinas Ranch Camp Project

A final solution has been developed by County Fire for the Cantinas Ranch Foundation to participate in helping the north shore become more fire safe. County Fire has recommended a modified contion whereby the Foundation has two options:

1. Construct an emergency secondary access road and bridge from the west (Camp) side of Kavanaugh Creek to the east side (adjacent to Oak Shores) and out to Oak Shores Drive

OR

2. Construct (or bond for construction costs) of a new fire station on the north shore of the lake, at a location to be determined and acquired by County Fire.

The Cantinas Ranch Foundation is very pleased to have this new opportunity to address existing deficiencies and increase safety throughout the north shore area and is eager to work closely with County Fire to identify an appropriate fire station design. The Camp design and construction team has built a number of fire stations in San Luis Obispo County and throughout the state, and is therefore well equipped for the task. PROPOSED PIPELINE BEWTWEN TWO SOUTH COUNTY RESWERVOIRS COULD SUPPLY THE PENISULA

Lake Nacimiento isn't deep enough to hold all of the water that flows into it. Water officials are now beginning to see that as an opportunity. A proposed pipeline would connect the two reservoirs allowing exccess water to be diverted to Lake San Antonio.

PASO WATER PLANT PLAN GETS MEMBRANE MONEY

On March 5th, the Paso Robles City Council approved nearly $1.6 million to fund the plant's membrance, an essential component of the filtration system. Once completed, the facility will filter 2.4 million gallons a day.

SALINAS VALLEY WATER RIGHT COULD BE REVOKED

The state will decide whether or not to revoke a key water right to the Salinas Valley come mid-April. This right has already been extended at least five times in order for water agencies to compete certain projects that to date have not been started.
