The downside is that property managers don’t come cheap!
Local Caretaker – If you’ve got connections in the area, or you do some research, you may find a local caretaker or maintenance worker that is willing to look after your Lake Nacimiento vacation home for far less than a property management company will charge. This person can visit your house once a month to turn on faucets, flush toilets, inspect for damages, etc. A landscaper could keep up with your lawn and flowers. How much you will pay a local person will depend on their rates and how much you have them doing, and how often.
On your own – If you don’t hire anyone to look after your vacation home in the off season, plan for emergencies. Make a list of trusted, recommended local repair companies in case of an emergency, such as plumbers, electricians, exterminators, etc. Make sure to install a keyless entry system for the home, so that these individuals can easily get into your home if need be. You can just give the code to someone over the phone if necessary. If you live nearby, you can always visit the home yourself to do maintenance and checkups as well.
