Father’s Day is this weekend, and you may be wondering what you can do to treat dad to a great time on Lake Nacimiento. Luckily, there are plenty of options! If you live in Oak Shores or Heritage Ranch year round, you may already have a good idea of what you’ll be doing this weekend.
But, if you’re vacationing for the week in your Lake Nacimiento vacation home, or visiting family and friends; you may want to know a little more about your options. As a Lake Nacimiento Real Estate agent, I enjoy providing great home buying and selling tips to my clients, as well as insight into the Lake Nacimiento lifestyle.
While you can always spend the weekend out on Lake Nacimiento swimming or boating, or even just take time to relax on your deck overlooking our beautiful lake; why not get out and try something different? Here are a few ideas that any dad would be sure to love.
Go Fishing
Did you know that Lake Nacimiento is best known as the only lake in California that is stocked with white bass. Anglers will also find largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, carp, bluegill, and channel catfish.
If you aren’t quite sure of the best places to go, here are a few ideas. Anglers seeking white bass do the best in the spring and fall. The white bass favor the main channel of Lake Nacimiento between the marina and Bee Rock, the narrows, Oak Shores, Town Creek, and Los Tablas Creek. They are found all the way up the Nacimiento River channel. Black bass are congregate around brush, rocks, and off the points.
Catfish are found most often in shallow areas of the lake, often at the heads of coves. Many fishermen go after them in Los Tablas, just south of the resort. Prolific bluegills are caught nearly everywhere on the lake along the shores, especially in the inlets. Crappie are hide where there is cover, often in Dip Creek, Las Tablas, Snake Creek, and Cantinas Creek.

Take a Hike
Hiking around Lake Nacimiento and the nearby parks is a great way to soak in the natural surroundings. Here are a few trails to check out!
San Simeon State Park- This state park offers an abundance of trails and great scenery. View more information on the San Simeon Creek Trail.
San Simeon Loop- Found in Leimert, CA, this trail offers a more relaxed approach as you’re able to take in the views of California’s Central Coastline. View more information on Trails.com.
The East West Ranch Bluff Trail- The town of Cambria, is home to one of the most breathtaking trails. Situated along the coastline, this trail follows the eroded bluffs along the ocean. With two wooden bridges along this one mile trail and benches spotted along the trail to take in the views, this is a hike that you won’t want to miss!
Anza National Historic Trail North- The Anza National Historic Trail winds along a portion of the original trail led by Juan Bautista de Anza in 1776. The tree lined view will make you feel as though you’re discovering a new world! View more information about this great hike.
