Q: How big is Lake Nacimiento?

A: Also known as The Dragon, Lake Nacimiento is 16 miles long.

This doesn't tell the whole story since a myriad of inlets stretches the shoreline to 165 miles. It covers a surface area of 5,370 acres.

A: Yes.

Lake Nacimiento and its sister Lake San Antonio are both reservoirs - built, owned and operated by Monterey Country. Both their primary purposes are flood control, irrigation of the Salinas Valley & prevention of saltwater intrusion of the Salinas Valley. Q: Is there a size limit for boats on Lake Nacimiento?

A: No.

Within the marina at the private community of Oak Shores, there is a 24' limit on boats using their docks.

Q: Where's the nearest place to get groceries?...to get gas?

A: Near the lake you can shop at The Bee Rock Store, Katie's Korner and Al's Marine, which also has gas.

For larger shopping lists, Paso Robles is 25 miles from the entry gate at Oak Shores.

A: It is generally a good idea to get prequalified.

Many sellers require a prequalification letter with your offer to purchase. So you should have that readily available when it comes time to make an offer. This typically makes your offer stronger. It speeds up the selling process and the seller knows you can get the money.

Q: What is prequalification?

A: Prequalification is where you have spoken to a lender about a possible home loan.

This is when you have spoken to a lender, usually over the phone. You will provide him with the information described above. They, in turn, will give you an estimate of what they believe you would qualify for if all the information you have given them is accurate. Remember though, it does not mean you are qualified.

People often think because they are prequalified they can get the loan when they find the home of their dreams. That simply is not true. At this point in the loan process they have not run a credit check or verified any of the information you have provided. There may be things on your credit report that are inaccurate or that you have forgotten about that may hinder the loan process or affect the loan amount.
