Next time you’re taking a road trip down the Pacific Coast Highway, or Highway 1, stop and check out one of the best restaurants along this route! Thrillist shared what they consider the top 12, and some of them are in the Central California region. As your Central California real estate agent, I’d like to share the closest ones with you.
1. Big Sur Bakery. Anywhere you stop in Big Sur is going to provide amazing views, since all of Big Sur is nestled in the mountains. This bakery resides inside a 1930s ranch home, and it has a patio with outdoor seating. This is the ideal place to stop if you’re staying overnight in Big Sur, because they specialize in breakfast! Stop by for coffee, pastries, or their notorious wood-fired breakfast pizza! They also serve lunch, brunch and dinner.
2. Nepenthe. Nepenthe is also located in Big Sur, and the views from this restaurant are ones that you will not soon forget! With the mountains next to you, and the ocean 800 feet below you, it’s impossible not to enjoy your food while enjoying your view. Nepenthe has been around since 1949 and is still ran as a family business. Thrillist recommends their Ambrosiaburger, which is a steak sandwich with a chili-salsa secret sauce.
3. The Galley Seafood Grill & Bar. This restaurant is located in Morro Bay, and here you can admire panoramic views of Morro Rock and the entire surrounding bay. They specialize in fresh fish, most of which is caught nearby, and wines perfectly paired with their seafood menu. They are open for lunch and dinner.
4. Rib Line by the Beach. While in Grover Beach, stop at this BBQ joint, where meats are seasoned with dry rub before getting grilled over an open red oak fire. Options range from Angus tri-tip to a four-pound “Brahma Bull” sandwich, once featured on Man vs Food. If you find yourself in a food coma afterward, the beach is a short stroll away!
